As the networks gear up and migrate equipment to transmit in high definition, the consumers are also scrambling to keep up. But there's more to acquire to take full advantage of high definition than just the big screen monitor. Besides the audio equipment, there's also the exterior digital TV antenna to think of. Meant to replace the aluminum UHF/VHF receiver on the roof of the house, the high tech receiver is meant to capture data-rich feeds and convert them to high definition video with multi-channel audio.

Designed to stand the weather, this piece of equipment is most needed if the house is situated quite a distance from the station. Alternatives, of course would be cable, or satellite set-top box. But these alternatives are dependent on an available service provider in the area.

This may look like a small part of the picture, but without a compatible receiver, the expensive video system would just show a black screen.
